I don’t know why Adobe made this After Effects preference hidden, but if you’re getting out of memory messages when rendering you can purge the frame cache at certain intervals to resolve. Mac users, hold the shift key and in the menu bar click on After Effects > Preferences > Media & Disk Cache… and click on Secret.
